The City of Highland Park is pleased to announce a lead service line replacement project, which will take place over the next two to three years. The majority of this project will be financed by the Public Water Supply Loan Program through the Illinois State Revolving Fund (SRF), which the City will need to pay back per the terms of the loan. The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities with the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water. The lead service line replacements will replace lead and galvanized water pipes in the City that connect from the water main in the street to the b-box or meter pit, as well as the private portion (if lead or galvanized) via the City’s cost share program, which connects to the building plumbing. This project will provide assurance of quality water and eliminate issues like leaks, breaks, and obstructions.
